sandwiched together as they jostle along

newspapers rustle, the faint sound of a beat from earphones firm set

laughing out loud the bearded youth uncontrollable eyes fixed on his phone

a message sent as phones beep

“Can’t talk now, I’ll call when I get to work” the suited gent embarrassingly pushes the phone back into his top pocket

everyone looks away, out of the window, to the floor, the head rest behind

anywhere else but straight ahead, eye contact you rarely find

over a year of our lives spent commuting to and from

not a moment of memory that year forgotten
